Fall Gardening In South Carolina
South Carolina Botanical Gardens, Clemson
The South Carolina Botanical Garden (295 acres) is located in Clemson, South Carolina on the campus of Clemson University. This garden has nature trails, pathways, ponds, streams, woodlands, trial gardens, The Bob Campbell Geology Museum, and the Fran Hanson Discovery Center, which has exhibits by local artists. It is open to the public every day of the week. The Bob Campbell Geology Museum features more than 10,000 rocks, minerals and fossils and has exhibits focused on geological and paleontological topics. The gardens are the home of the historic Hanover House, which is an early 18th-century house built in the South Carolina Low Country and moved to the Clemson campus. It also has a pioneer village featuring the Hunt Log Cabin, which was originally built about 1825 in the Seneca, South Carolina area.
The South Carolina Botanical Garden features one of the largest collections of nature-based sculptures in the country. The extended-ephemeral pieces were each designed on-site by international artists and built by local volunteers and students within one month. Upon completion, the pieces begin to return to nature, so while many may still be found in the Garden, others have disappeared without a trace.

This is definitely worth a few hours if you're in town. The visitors center area was very well taken care of and I enjoyed the different floewrbeds i.e. desert, tropical, etc. It was themed/landscaped very nicely. The geology museum was on the smaller side, but had very interesting specimens, especially the precious gem section, on display. If you take the driving loop around the grounds you can go over the butterfly garden which was the best part of the grounds in my opinion. It's a natural outdoor garden that attracts a lot of wild butterflies. There's also a beautiful sitting area with a gazebo overlooking a pond.

Absolutely Beautiful Gardens! Went late December and while obviously more dormant, a few camellias still sported their beautiful pink flowers. Excellent variety of evergreen trees and shrubs. I loved hiking through the different ecosystems and reading the many explanatory boards. Would love to come back in spring!

I have been coming here for around 30 years, its been my go.to place to recieve healing from nature, to have quick lunch during work hrs, a wonderful place to share bonding time and create memories with my grandchildren, and other friends and family, the place my bf made some very special photos of my.precious furbaby near the end of his life then the last outing with her as me, her and her husband and I spent hours making and posing for about a 1000 pictures. Thanks to everyone who invested in making CBG a beautiful part of my life.
